River Network envisions a future of clean and ample water for people and nature, where local caretakers are well-equipped, effective and courageous champions for our rivers. Our mission directly supports this vision. River Network empowers and unites people and communities to protect and restore rivers and other waters that sustain all life.
Our work is primarily focused on helping small and medium size organizations working at the local level who provide a voice for the needs of specific rivers and their watersheds. We provide resources and expertise in three areas essential to healthy rivers:
Over the past 26 years, River Network has been at the forefront of expanding interest in protecting the waters of our country, encouraging diversity in the environmental movement, and helping engaged citizens to take a stand for their waters. Since 1988, River Network has accomplished our mission by investing in local efforts, and helping advance impact at more significant scales (system, state, regional, national). We offer one-on-one mentoring and consulting, virtual trainings, and conferences to strengthen local efforts; convene groups for greater impact; and increase the transfer of practical water management solutions.
We count over 10,000 individuals and 2,000 groups working to protect individual rivers and watersheds located across the U.S. (and beyond) among our community. We help these people connect to each other and great ideas, empower them to make a difference, and expand their impact locally, regionally and nationally. We provide benefits to Partners — dues-paying groups that receive ongoing access to our resources, services and technical training. Our consistent support has helped many hundreds of these groups to form and grow steadily stronger over the past two decades. Many now have professional staff and hundreds or thousands of active members of their own.
