Billerica Cells Out For A Cause
At the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year it was brought to the Cell’s Out Committee’s attention that our community and a family of the community needed our support once again this year. We were soon introduced to Michele Morris. Michele is a single mother of three and she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in early July of 2014. She is currently receiving high doses of chemotherapy followed by a double mastectomy, chemotherapy again, and then radiation. During her treatment, she is unable to work and has to take care of her two and a half year old son who has Autism and a sensory processing disorder. The Billerica Memorial student high school body and community have joined together in an effort to raise money for the Morris family and the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute. The students are coming together and making a pledge to shut down their phones for 30 days. This will be the second annual Billerica is Celling Out for a Cause campaign. With help from sponsors, we plan to raise as much money as possible to help the Morris Family on their road to recovery.
This incredible event is being held from February 4th to March 6th, 2015. We had 42 kids give up their cell phones for 30 days. These 42 students will be asking friends, families, and local businesses to help support the Morris family. There is no greater feeling than being able to utilize ourselves to help fight cancer in some way where we hope that someday cancer will be a disease of the past.
